As a professional Pet Groomer, I encounter both Dogs and Cats that present with a range of problems, most of which are treatable yet hidden to their owners.  Here are some of the more common things I see when caring for our canine and feline fur-baby family.  As part of my training, I was schooled in how to recognise signs and symtpoms of potentially life-threatening issues.

Pet Grooming Acute Moist Dermatitis of Hot Spots
HOT SPOTS also known as ACUTE MOIST DERMATITIS (AMD)
This is a common problem especially in Golden Retrievers and Arctic Dogs.  It is a Bacterial infection of the first Dermal Layer of the skin and if left untreated, can develop into more serious problems if the infection deepens to the lower layers of the skin.
Pet Grooming ATOPIC Dermatitis in Dogs
ATOPIC DERMATITIS also known as Environmental Dermatitis

This is quite a common problem in short coated breeds. It is caused by changes to the dogs environment such as grass pollen, dust, dirt and other environmental factors that affect the skin.  This can and does present itself as small red rashes commonly on the belly or any other areas that generate a lot of heat
Pet Grooming dog with Jaundice indicating possbile liver failure
JAUNDICE

Yellowing of the Gums.  This indicates a breakdown of Hemoglobin in the body and is a common sign of Snake and Tick bites.  Another problem this can present as is Liver failure.
Pet Grooming dog with CYANOSIS - possible heart problems
CYANOSIS
CO2 starvation in the blood
Pet Grooming dog with ANAEMIA
ANAEMIA
White Gums indicate a distinct lack of Iron in the system. This can normally be remedied with a change in diet.  It can also be an indicator of other problems and we always advise you seek the advice of a Veterinary professional if we feel there is a need
